Rettich Remains Perfect at Brainerd

Scott Rettich, of Camden, Ohio, maintained his perfect record in 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises Series competition over the weekend (September 3-4) by taking his fifth and sixth victories on the season with another doubleheader sweep at Brainerd International Raceway.

Driving his No. 17 PDI Communications Systems/Alliance Autosport Formula Enterprises machine, Rettich started from the pole position and led all but the first lap in the first race of the doubleheader on Saturday, beating Patrick Gallagher, of Thornville, Ohio, by 22.666 seconds. He also had the pole for Sunday, but dropped back a few spots in the running order early on before working his way back to the lead after eight of 20 laps. He went on to win by 21.116 seconds over Jason Wolfe, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio.

“First off, I’ve got to thank my team, Alliance Auto Sport, Springboro Car Wash, PDI Communications, Hoosier for giving us great tires and Red Line Oil,” Rettich said. “It all came together for a great weekend. The first race we were looking really good. They kept us honest, but we were able to pull away. The second race, it was certainly tight there in the beginning. The track has a lot of drafting. We had a lot of hard but very clean racing. Again, I was able to open a gap there from halfway on.”

Gallagher was second on Saturday in the No. 00 JAY Motorsports/CTL Engineering entry, followed by Jim Libecco, of Solon, Ohio, who was third in the No. 98 Akron Skin Center/JAY Motorsports machine. Libecco led the opening lap in the race. Matt Schneider, of Lexington, Ky., came home fourth in the No. 31 Jay Motorsports car and Wolfe was fifth in the No. 23 JAY Motorsports entry.

Wolfe led five laps on Sunday en route to his second-place finish ahead of Libecco, who again finished third. Schneider was fourth on Sunday, and Gallagher wound up fifth after leading the first two laps in the race.

Rettich holds a commanding, 134-point lead over Gallagher, 832-689, with four races remaining on the schedule.

Next up for the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises Series will be a doubleheader at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on the weekend of September 16-18.
