Rettich, Harris Earn SRF Wins At Brainerd
Scott Rettich, of Oxford, Ohio, ran away and hid in the weekend’s first SCCA Pro Racing Spec Racer Ford race at Brainerd International Raceway, but Carl Harris, of Houston, made sure that didn’t happen again the following day. Each earned Labor Day weekend wins and a pair of podium finishes at the only professional road race weekend on the Minnesota track’s 2010 schedule.
Rettich, driving the No. 17 PDI Communication Systems/Springboro Car Wash Spec Racer Ford, earned a 12.192-second victory in Saturday’s race, round seven of 10 on the season. Rettich topped Tray Ayers, of Woodstock, Ga., driving the No. 7 Ayers Racing SRF machine.
Harris, in his No. 49 Four Seasons Radiator SRF, finished third, 16.060 seconds behind Rettich.
Harris reversed his fortunes during Sunday’s Round Eight, earning a slim 0.635-second win over Rettich. Ayers also doubled up on the podium finishes with a third-place finish on Sunday.
Rick Bellew, of Mobile, Ala., finished fourth in both races behind the wheel of the No. 10 M&M Motorsports machine.
James Gray, of Minneapolis, was fifth on Saturday, while Peter Jankovskis, of Lislie, Ill., completed the top-five on Sunday in the No. 6 Elite Autosports SRF.
With two rounds to go, Ayres leads the championship by 38 points over Rettich, 699 – 661.
