Rettich Goes Four-for-Four in 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises with Doubleheader Sweep at Mosport International Raceway
Through four rounds of the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises season, Scott Rettich, of Camden, Ohio, has been nearly perfect.
After sweeping the season-opening doubleheader at Virginia International Raceway last weekend, Rettich was at it again this weekend at Canada’s beloved Mosport International Raceway, taking his second straight weekend sweep in Rounds 3 and 4. However, while the end result was the same, this weekend was a fair bit different for Rettich.
In Saturday’s first race of the Mosport doubleheader, Rettich started his No. 17 PDI Communications Formula Enterprises machine from the pole position and led comfortably throughout to take his third consecutive pole-to-checkered victory. However, Sunday’s second half of the doubleheader was a different matter entirely.
Owing to a crash during qualifying on Friday afternoon for Race #2, Rettich started from near the back of the grid in ninth position on Sunday morning. It took Rettich just three laps to find his way into the top five and by Lap 8 of the 21-lap event, Rettich moved into second place behind Patrick Gallagher, of Thornville, Ohio, in the No. 00 Jay Motorsports/CTL Engineering Formula Enterprises entry.
Rettich stalked Gallagher for the next eight laps and took advantage of a draft down Mosport’s famed Andretti Straightaway to take the lead with six laps remaining. He then pulled away over the remaining laps to win by 9.231 seconds over Gallagher.
“First off, I have to thank my team, Alliance Autosport,” Rettich said after Race #2. “They worked very hard all weekend and gave me a great car. I’ve got to thank my parents and all my other supporters, Hoosier, Red Line, Springboro Car Wash and PDI Communications. It was definitely a lot of fun coming up through the pack. I knew I had the car to do it, but I knew I had to really hammer down and push it all race long and do it without wearing out my tires too much.
“Mosport is just an incredible track. It takes a lot of commitment and a lot of faith in the car. I just love this place. It’s very high speed.”
As he did at VIR, Gallagher finished second in both races of the doubleheader to remain second in the championship standings. He trails Rettich by 73 points, 545-472, with four of 10 races complete in the 2011 Pro Formula Enterprises season. Gallagher also led the first 15 laps of Sunday’s race.
Matt Schneider, of Lexington, Ky., took third in Race #1 on Saturday in the No. 31 Jay Motorsports Formula Enterprises car, with Jim Libecco, of Solon, Ohio, scoring the final podium position on Sunday in the No. 98 Akron Skin Center Formula Enterprises entry. Jason Wolfe, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, took fourth on Saturday in the No. 49 Jay Motorsports machine with Schneider earning the fourth spot on Sunday.
Eric Fagan, of Columbus, Ohio, finished fifth on Saturday in his No. 91 Formula Enterprises ride with Shaun Miller, of New Springfield, Ohio, rounding out the top five on Sunday in the No. 59 Work Racing machine.
Next up for the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises competitors will be a doubleheader at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn. on Labor Day weekend, September 2-4.
