Rettich Earns Second-Consecutive SCCA Pro SRF Title Sunday At Road Atlanta
Scott Rettich, of Camden, Ohio, earned back-to-back SCCA Pro Racing Spec Racer Ford titles with a pair of top finishes and some attrition on Sunday at Road Atlanta.
Rettich entered the weekend leading the point battle by 43 points, extended his lead to 65 points prior to the afternoon finale with a fourth-place finish, and clinched the championship when top competitors Richard Spicer and Brian Schofield exited the afternoon race prematurely with separate suspension issues.
“It feels great to win the championship again,” Rettich said. “We had many strong competitors, and our worst finish was fourth all year. We had a very reliable car, I was able to stay out of trouble all year and finish up front. I wasn’t always the fastest, I had plenty of wins, but consistency was the key in the championship.”
Rettich finished the season with three wins to earn 986 points, accounting for the series’ rule requiring each driver to drop one of the doubleheader event weekends from their scoring. Spicer’s four wins, including one in the penultimate race at Road Atlanta, left him second with 844 points. Schofield finished third in the Championship with two wins, ending the season with 806 points.
