Hippi Racing Driver Sweeps Sebring Doubleheader
Hippi Racing and Scott Rettich started out the 2010 SCCA Club Racing season right by winning both races in the Formula Enterprises class at Sebring International Raceway.
Due to attending graduate school, Rettich missed both test days and arrived at the track just minutes before the first qualifying session. Entering the track halfway through the qualifying session, he was able to qualify on the pole on just his second lap.
“It was one of the most amazing moments to see Scott arrive at the track, quickly suit up, and put the car on pole in just 10 minutes,” stated Hippi Racing Crew Chief Suren “ZRod” Tchobanian. “While Scott has done laps in a similar car before, both he and the team had never competed in Formula Enterprises before at Sebring. Luckily we were able to put a very good starting setup on the car that allowed him to get up to speed so quickly.”
Race one saw the drivers having to contend with a very cold and wet track, placing grip at a premium. Rettich battled early on with Paul Schneider, but went on to win by a sizeable margin.
Qualifying for race two was done on a dry, but very cold track, that saw the drivers struggling to get their tires up to optimum temperature. Rettich captured the pole position with a blisteringly fast lap that was three seconds under the old track record.
In the race, Rettich kept his nose clean and ran consistent and very fast laps, winning by over one minute.
“This is a great start to the season,” stated Rettich. “The Southeast Division has a very strong group of drivers in Formula Enterprises. I would like to thank Hippi Racing for once again giving me a very well prepped car that allowed me to get up to speed instantly and win both races. I would also like to thank my parents and my sponsors Springboro Car Wash and PDI Communications Systems.”
The Hippi Racing team is now focused on preparations for the first Formula Enterprises Pro Race at Road Atlanta.
“We are all very excited to competing in the new Formula Enterprises Pro series,” stated Team Owner/Manager J.D. Pfetzing. “The team is in a strong position to contend for race wins in both club races and the new pro series.”
The Hippi Racing team was formed in 2000, and has competed in both SCCA Regional and National racing, as well as endurance racing, highlighted by class wins in the “12 hours of Nelson” and “The Longest Day” 24 hour race at Nelson Ledges and numerous class and overall wins in SCCA Improved Touring, Spec Racer Ford and Formula Enterprises. Through driver coaching and comprehensive race prep, Hippi racing drivers have enjoyed competitive racing and consistently improving results.
For 2010 Hippi Racing plans to compete in the newly formed SCCA Pro Formula Enterprises and SCCA Pro Spec Racer Ford series, in addition to competing in SCCA National and Regional races in various classes.
